Ebchester WI meets at 1.15pm in Ebchester Community Centre on the third Thursday of each month with the exception of  December, when we meet on the second Thursday.

We are part of the National Federation of WIs and currently have 25 members.  At our meetings we normally have a talk or demonstration followed by time for tea and a chat.  We like to be involved with local events and enjoy theatre and restaurant visits

A few of the speakers’ topics still to come this year are ‘Noth-east Monologues & Poems in dialect’; ‘Memorable Women of the North-east’; and ‘Old customs’

New members are always welcome

WI LogoThe Women’s Institute (WI) was formed in 1915 to revitalise rural communities and encourage women to become more involved in producing food during the First World War. Since then the organisation’s aims have broadened and the WI is now the largest voluntary women’s organisation in the UK. The WI celebrated its centenary in 2015 and currently has over 210,000 members in about 6,600 individual WIs

The WI plays a unique role in providing women with educational opportunities and the chance to build new skills, to take part in a wide variety of activities and to campaign on issues that matter to them and their communities.

Arts, Sports, Leisure & Science

From competitions, astronomy, earthquakes, writing, photography and drama to walking, dancing and circus skills; the WI has something for everybody!

Members are offered a variety of activities to help stimulate arts, science, sport and leisure within the WI

Floral Art and Gardening

The WI offers a wide variety of opportunities for members to develop their floral art skills.

Whether you are interested in learning how to create a beautiful flower arrangement for the home, or as a gift, to the more advanced and technical such as becoming an NFWI Floral Art Judge, there is something for everyone, from beginner to the more advanced.

Food and Cooking

The WI is synonymous with good food and its preparation and these traditions of healthy well-made food and preserves continue in a wide range of activities.

WI members are committed to improving the nation’s diet and health particularly regarding food and sustainability. The emergence of childhood obesity and the cumulative effect of advertising unhealthy food and soft drinks reinforce bad dietary habits and undermine parents and health professionals in encouraging healthier eating.
